&Pooof!
(2010)
Solo Exhibition at the Association for Visual Arts Gallery (AVA), Cape Town. 6th April - 30th April 2010
The title of this exhibition is an absurd, ironical contrast to the reality of the creation and production of this exhibition. A 'pooof' is defined as a 'meticulously planned random event' where just about everything is explained by 'poof there it is' or poof , it's gone!'. Pouring slip in and out of moulds for a long time beacame a meditation and an emptying out and letting go of fixed perceptions. I like the ambiguity that arises when setting different materials and processes together such as plastic and clay. People often comment on the original Jik bottle the know and the copy they see, they are convinced what they see is plastic.
